Aripita Avenue Essay Description of the business The name of the business that i will be establishing is Jagroops doubles. The business will be located on the corner of Aripita Avenue and Rosalino Street. The business will be selling doubles and soft drinks, the consumer will be able to choose the type of sauce they want on their doubles for example mango sauce, shadow benni sauce, pepper sauce or cucumbers The business is going to be a sole trader, because I would like to own my own business, make all the decisions and most of all receive most of the profits The objectives of the business are to make profit, supply a good to the people and to provide employment. Justification of location The business will be located on Aripita Avenue because the road is well travelled on mornings and on weekends it is a popular liming area in addition doubles are very popular with people when they have finished liming. Parking is also readily available for people who want to come and purchase doubles. Selection of appropriate labour The business will have three persons working. Two people will be making the barra and channa and sauces while the third person will be handling the sales of the stand, while I prepare the doubles and pack them. The hours they will be expected to work will be from 3am to 9am from Monday to Friday and on Saturday from 10pm to 4am ( to facilitate the night life) The workers are skilled because doubles is a specialty food item and will need experienced workers who will know how to prepare it. Sources of fixed and working capital The fixed capital will be obtained from a loan from the bank, the business will borrow a sum of eighty thousand dollars ($80,000) for a period of five years and will have a monthly payment of nineteen hundred dollars ($1900). The fixed capital will be used for purchasing a stand which will be used to sell the doubles from, also a motor van will be purchased to transport the food and stand from the place that it will be made to the place that it will be sold. The working capital of the business will be made from the day to day sales and is comprised of stock, bank and cash. An example of the working capital will be the inventory of the business, the doubles, because they will need to sell goods in order to make money. Role of the entrepreneur The role of the entrepreneur is to provide the capital of the business. He will also have to be a good leader to the staff to ensure that they know what is to be expected from them. The entrepreneur will have to make sure that everyone in the business is doing their job properly and efficiently in order to maximise profits. Also he will be responsible for all the decisions that area to be made in the business. Three functions of the entrepreneur are: 1. The factors of production – the entrepreneur organises the factors of production and allocation of resources and uses them efficiently in the business. 2. Management – the entrepreneur is responsible for the management of the business, making sure that everything in the business will run smoothly. 3. Risk – the entrepreneur faces the risk of unlimited liability, meaning if the business was to fail he would be the one responsible for paying off the bank loans. Type of production This business will fall under the category of primary production because it will not require a lot of knowledge to produce this kind of food. The workers will require some knowledge to make the product but that will be minimal knowledge. Level of production For this business they will only be producing doubles to the local public of the country. The reason for this is because the food product will go bad within a matter of hours if not stored properly. The product doesn’t have a shelf life meaning it will go bad if it were to be placed in a grocery or super market. Quality control measure To ensure that the business will be selling the best product available the business will only be buying the best quality products available. Also we will not be producing the good with more than three hours in advance in order for the customer to get the freshest food possible. Use of technology The technology that the business will be using is a scale to measure the weght of the barra so that it will come out with a consistent weight and size. Also a van will also be used to transport all the equipment from the headquarters to the selling place. Linkages This business will only have backwards linkages, these linkages will be with the persons that they buy raw materials from for the business Potential for growth The potential for growth would be to open up a second stand in a different location, for example one on independence square in port of spain, to make more profits. And internal growth would be to start selling other products for example allo pies and fry bake. Government regulations The business will be required to register the name of the business with the Registrar of Companies. As well as having to get the appropriate food badges in order to sell the doubles, they may be more difficult than they would assume because this process could take a couple of months. They will have to comply with the health departments regulations such as washing hands before entering the work place and wearing gloves when serving the food. Color Imagery in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Sir Gawain And The Green Knight I believe that the color imagery in Sir Gawain And The Green Knight represents nature, as a force that man has little control over. This is evident during the journey of Sir Gawain, and later, his shame in front of King Arthur's court. Nature does as it will in ways that can not be controlled by man. The best they can do is to acknowledge the fact that it is happening. They had no control whatsoever, and therefore, were subject to it's, at times, ferocity. This is similar to the ferocity displayed by the Green Knight. The Green Knight worked under his own set of rules, and like a growing tree, man had, and still has, no control over when the tree would leaf or bloom, or how long it's branches would grow. The Green Knight, like nature, has to be understood before it can be dealt with, and even then, you are not guaranteed success. You need to know how he thinks, and play your cards right, in order to come out of the fight successfully. At first Sir Gawain was on the right path, but throughout his journey, he became sidetracked and due to that, he brought shame unto himself, and to the court of King Arthur. The story begins with a New Year's feast at Arthur's court in Camelot. All the knights and ladies gather to exchange gifts, and to eat and be merry. Everyone is laughing and having a good time, while Arthur amuses them with stories of courageous knights. The first course is served, and the guests are about to eat, when a knight, dressed totally in green, rides into the dining hall. The knight is very large, well-dressed, and imposing. It seems that he has come in peace, due to the absence of his armor and shield. The Green Knight's connection to nature is emphasized when he is presented holding a "holly bob...That is goodliest in green when groves are bare"(206-7). His closeness to nature is also apparent when the color of the knight is described as "green as the grass"(235). The Green Knight has a challenge, and he demands to speak to the head of the court. King Arthur, being the head of the court, answers the call of the Green Knight. The Green Knight proceeds to tell Arthur that it is his court who are the best and most noble knights in the land, and he has come here with a challenge.

People cannot deny the fact that media has been playing a powerful and influential role in the society. All the people are affected by the messages that are being shown on media sources and unconsciously change the values and beliefs that have been presented in the society. Undeniably, media contributes to the messages that develop the environments of the adolescents. Even parents agree that media has a great impact on the lives of adolescents but this opinion always leads to negative perception of adults toward media because of the influence that media conveys to the young generation. The information that is released by the mass media is willingly absorbed by the people. Adolescents are often targeted by this information because of their ability to conform easily to what media has exposed to the society. The vulnerability of adolescents in absorbing the knowledge and information that media has provided for them often leads to both negative and positive impacts not only on the adolescents themselves but also on the community. Because the young adults are the active consumers of the messages that are being portrayed in media sources like television, radio, newspapers and magazines, they have been the target of the information showed on media. Sexuality on Mass Media The sexual contents in media can affect the people not only the adolescents; however adults have been expressing their concern for the young people because of their early exposure to sexual messages. According to surveys, the average teenage viewer sees hundreds of sexual behavior on television a week with portrayals of four times as many sexual activities between married and unmarried couples. Moreover, most of the movies that are being shown on cable networks and videos on music channels contain sexual messages. Some researches also suggest that the sexual messages that are being portrayed on media sources are presented in positive aspects with little discussion of the consequences and potential risks (Gruber and Grube). Media has been influential in transferring information to the viewers. In fact, media is used by the young adults to get information about sexuality. Moreover, teenagers view the people showed by the media as the role models of sexy body and aspire to have the same body size and figure as what they have seen on television or magazine (Brown). Advertisements are created in order to persuade the target consumers to buy a certain product; however the audiences tend to buy not only the product that is being endorsed by the media but also the subliminal content of the advertisement. In other words, media is able to influence the emotional and psychological aspect of the society on the messages that are being conveyed on a certain media source. One television shows for teenagers portrays sexually active individuals openly talking about sexual experiences. The advertising poster of one milk brand shows a half naked woman while being bathed by the product. Physical flirting, kissing, and intercourse are often depicted and implied by the media to which adolescents are greatly exposed as they become matured individuals (Brown et. al). Media and Adolescents The people absorb the messages that media portrays to the society. Apparently, media has been an influential source of information for the people because it is the most accessible way of learning about any aspects in a person’s life. Since adolescents are the active consumers of the information that are being showed by the media, the messages that media offers to the society are largely absorbed by the young cluster of the society. Therefore, media has a great impact on the development of the youth and the construction of the society. Heavy exposure of adolescents to sexual messages of media helps the youth in developing beliefs and perceptions. Since this cluster of the society is extremely exposed to the messages that are being conveyed by the mass media, the effects of the information that media shows to the society will be easily absorbed by the youth. Media frequently shows images with sexual content to the society which young generation takes the largest part of the viewing population. In this aspect, information from media may promote sexual initiation and illusion to the young people. Adolescence is the stage of developing sexual exploration which can be triggered by many factors that are present in the society. In this period, the teenager becomes aware of the sexual behaviors that should be considered appropriate for his or her age. However, despite the idea that many young adults still prefer not to be engaged to sexual activities in a very young age, many teenagers are being affected by the factors of the society that change their views toward sex. In other words, adolescents are easily influenced by the perceptions of other people and conform in the cultural norms (Collins et. al). Teenagers easily follow what they can see on the society by imitating what they have seen others are doing and desiring to be fit on the society. Since media has been portraying sexual images without negative consequences to the teenagers, these people on the complicated stage of life would adopt the behaviors that are portrayed to them. Even though teenagers are aware that what media showed are all products of imagination and created only to attract viewers’ attention, the young adults would still perceive the message as reality and believe to the information that media had provided for them. Although some messages on media shows sexual risks, many teenagers tend to engage to sexual activities because of the media’s lack of emphasis to the consequences that it may bring to the young adults. Surprisingly, the media sources even portray safe sex messages and less discouragement to the viewers. However, most researches show that the programs that teenagers have sexual content. Some of the films and television programs portray characters believing in the idea that having sex would keep the romance alive in the relationship. The others talk about sexual experiences which conveyed encouragement to youth to be engaged to sexual activities. Although most of the media sources depict sex as common, some show patience to wait for the proper time and risk sexual consequences, such as unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. However, those programs still evoke sexual behaviors to viewers despite their resistance to sexual activities. In turn, these scenes mold social perspectives and affect the behavior of the young adults. Sexuality on Media and Consequences to Adolescents One of the impacts of sexuality towards media has been discussed even at the introduction of this study; however several problems still exist that adolescents and society may encounter because of the images portrayed on media sources. Aside from imitating and conforming to the messages that the young adults have learned through media, bigger problems may occur in society because of the constant exposure of images and frequently portraying of subliminal messages. In other words, short exposure of sexual images would bring a lifetime of societal problems. Since adolescence is the period in which a person strives hard to fit in the society, this stage is associated with conflicts and complicated aspects to young adults. Young adults conform to society and imitate the actions that adults do which becomes a constructed reality for them. Sexual content on media leaves a mark to young viewers and construct a new perspectives toward sex. In this aspect, a teenager engages in sexual activities at an early age then tends to pursue intercourse once committed to an intimate relationship. In other words, the young adults may continue to engage in sexual activities once they get involved in relationships with different persons. This idea does not show societal problems in terms of polygamy but poses a rather alarming problem. The risk of having sexually transmitted disease for constant shifting of partners can be one of the bigger problems that may be encountered by the society. Aside from this problem, unplanned and unwanted pregnancy often occurs in the society. A growing number of young people who became parents at a very young age are one of the problems that the society is facing today. Some teenagers are being strong enough to face the consequence of engaging to sexual activities by pursuing the pregnancy and accepting the responsibility of early parenthood. However, some prefer to escape the conflict of unwanted pregnancy and engage in abortion, which leads to another societal problem. If these problems would be viewed in a broader aspect, the adolescents’ sexuality results in an immature way of parenting that would lead to domestic violence to divorces and separation. Apparently, these problems have different factors to look back to; but the causes are oftentimes neglected focusing on the bigger or less important ones. Media is being used by the young adults for daily entertainment which makes them active consumers because of more time that are being spent on media rather than other activities. Moreover, adolescents use media to gain information regarding common issues in developing to become independent individuals and use the information learned in their daily lives. Although media has a purpose for sowing certain messages, adolescents use the messages acquired from media in different manner and purpose (Levesque). Undeniably, media has a great impact on the sexuality of adolescents. The influence of media can be considered as positive because of its ability to teach the youth about sex education and leaving them the choice to conform or negative for showing too much sexuality making youth exposed to unrealistic aspects of the society and giving them courage to conform to the media’s constructed reality. The sexual images that are being shown to young adults are not only a source of information but can predict and picture the future of the world through the social perspectives and sexual behaviors that are being constructed for the young adults. What Are Camel Crickets, Also Called Cave Crickets

People often encounter camel crickets (also called cave crickets) in their basements and worry about damage to their homes or possessions. Although mostly considered a nuisance pest, large numbers of camel crickets in the home may damage fabrics or indoor plants. Camel and cave crickets belong to the family Rhaphidophoridae. They are sometimes called spider crickets or sand-treader crickets. Description Camel and cave crickets are not true crickets. They are, however, close relatives of true crickets, katydids, and even the odd-looking Jerusalem crickets. Camel crickets are usually tan to brown in color and have a distinctive humpbacked appearance. They have extremely long filiform antennae and rather long legs as well, so if you only get a passing look at one, you might think you saw a spider.   Camel crickets dont fly and lack wings, so theres no easy way to differentiate adults from immature ones. Without wings, they cant chirp like true crickets. They dont have auditory organs, either, since they dont communicate by singing like most of their Orthopteran cousins. Some camel crickets may produce sounds using stridulatory pegs. Rhaphidophorid crickets are nocturnal and are not attracted to lights. Cave crickets usually live in caves, as you probably guessed, and most camel crickets prefer dark, moist habitats, like the inside of hollow trees or fallen logs. In dry conditions, they sometimes find their way into human dwellings, where they seek out basements, bathrooms, and other higher-humidity locations. A recent study found the greenhouse camel cricket (Diestrammena asynamora), a species native to Asia, is now the most common camel cricket found in homes in the eastern U.S. The invasive species may be displacing native camel crickets, but more research is needed to understand the impact of the exotic camel crickets on the ecosystem. When they invade human structures, camel crickets may chew on paper goods and fabrics. Life Cycle We know surprisingly little about the life cycle and natural history of camel crickets. Like all insects in the order Orthoptera, camel and cave crickets undergo simple metamorphosis with just three life stages: egg, nymph, and adult. The mated female deposits her eggs in the soil, typically in the spring. Adults overwinter, as do the immature nymphs. Special Behaviors and Defenses Camel crickets have powerful hind legs, which enable them to jump several feet to quickly flee predators. This tends to startle the unsuspecting homeowner trying to get a closer look. Range and Distribution About 250 species of camel and cave crickets inhabit dark, moist environments throughout the world. Just over 100 of these species inhabit the U.S. and Canada, including several exotic species that are now established in North America.
